Devices are addicting. We sit in front of our screens for hours and hours on end, rarely getting up to move or take our eyes off our devices. The result?
Our productivity suffers and our bodies pay the price. In case you haven’t heard “sitting is the new smoking.” Why?
We didn’t evolve sitting in chairs or staring at screens. We evolved standing and moving. Pretty much everything in our body works better when we’re in motion, including our muscular, circulatory, and digestive systems. Oh yeah, and we think more clearly too.
The more we sit still the more problems…

Interruptions. Distractions. A co-worker barges into your office. Your phone pings you. It’s non-stop. Ever wonder if your job title shouldn’t be “professional juggler”.
Time management is tough, especially for multi-taskers. Why?
Because “multi-tasking” is actually just being scattered. Think about it.
If texting while driving is as likely to cause an accident as drunk driving, what are you missing when you multi-task?
Aside from making fewer mistakes, could you be working more effectively? The answer is yes. What is the biggest thing multi-taskers miss out on?

The Great Pyramid of Giza is one of the greatest human achievements. Built around 2,500 B.C.E. it weighs an estimated 6 million tons. That seems impressive, but it pales in comparison to the amount of earth moved by tiny termites in Northeastern Brazil where 200 million of their mounds were discovered only recently. The megapolis is so big it can be seen from space.

Curiously, scientists only began discovering these mounds a few decades ago, when the rainforest was cleared for grazing. In doing so they revealed the mounds, the oldest of which is about 3,400 years old.
Each mound…

Bees love poppies. It’s rare to see so many bees on one flower.
At ACS, we build a better world every day, but so do honeybees. World Bee Day, May 20, celebrates our greatest animal allies.
Here are some fascinating facts you can bring up in any conversation to support awareness:
According to the U.S. Army, bees are our most important strategic livestock. They are so critical to our national food security that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has worked to develop plans enhancing pollinator habitats across more than 12 million acres of land.
These unsung heroes that provide…
Let me tell you a quick story about how smart commercial building owners, and smart business people, protect their buildings from the plague of tagging.
I’m driving through Graffiti Alley on 880, about a mile south of the Broadway exit, where buildings butt right up against the freeway. Every inch of available wall space is covered with tags.
I round the bend to an overpass, with a 40-foot-tall support beam. Even though it stretches out above speeding traffic, it always has a tag at the top. …

This is one of a series of short stories inspired by the Boardgame “Clank!”. It’s one of my favorite deckbuilding board games, due to the number of sequels, great humor, wonderful narrative, and much more.
If you have played “Clank!” you will appreciate many of the references.
If not, then hang on as you join Kragnar the Barbarian as he gets a little greedy in his hunt for a dragon egg while avoiding the dragon Nictotraxian and his Pipe Organ of Pain.
Gather around Geeksters and let me tell you a tale…

One of the best ways to stay safe, make better decisions, and think more clearly is to get good sleep.
Americans are coping with stress by working longer hours, exercising less, watching more TV, and drinking more caffeine. This makes it harder to fall asleep, so they are drinking more alcohol or taking sleeping pills to fall asleep faster.
The result is a nasty feedback cycle resulting in poor sleep.
Research shows that regular, restful sleep increases professional athlete performance as much as taking performance-enhancing drugs.

In other words, if you aren’t getting a good night’s sleep, you are missing…
