Jesus’s Visit From 3 Marketing Magi Brings Magic to the Season
It’s a cold blustery day here in California and I’m thinking about “the reason for the season.”
In particular, the 3 “kings” who visited baby Jesus — or as we say here in California — Haysoos.
They weren’t kings. Or even wise men.
They were magi — priests of the Persian religion Zoroastrianism, which is the grandaddy of the monotheistic traditions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
The magi were literate in a time when reading was rare. Literacy made them powerful. They could spell things out — literally — and share their knowledge with other magi. When only a select few can read, writing is magic.
In fact, magi is where we get the word magic. They used specialized knowledge to create the illusion of supernatural power — and maintain control.
The same techniques they used to influence mass consciousness are still used today by marketers and politicians. They manipulate our thinking — or try to — by casting spells we now call ads.
Ads are modern magic spells, designed to influence what we do — whether it’s buying something, joining a movement, or believing in a cause.
Want to explore the magical roots of marketing and how it still shapes our world today?
Stay tuned.
This is day 4 of my attempt to write emails every day. Hope you enjoyed.
Have a great day!
